What is IPL and how does it work?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses warm gentle pulses of light to put the hair to sleep, preventing it from growing back for up to six months*. With Lumea, women typically see a 92% hair reduction after just three treatments**.

Who can use IPL?
What if it doesn’t work for me?
Yes! You'll start seeing up to 30% hair reduction in just three weeks & can expect full results after 8 weeks. Some hairs that were not in an ‘anagen’ phase during treatment can still grow, so we suggest a maintenance treatment once every 1-2 months.
Is the treatment painful?
The Flasher uses PrecisionPulse IPL which flashes at 10ms (4 times longer than competitor IPL). This means light is less likely to be absorbed by the melanin in skin & more by the melanin in hair for safer, more effective, & less painful treatments.
Where can I use my IPL device?
The Flasher is effective to use everywhere that hair grows, including your arms, underarms, hands, legs, chin, neck, back, and nether regions. It is not recommended to use around your eyes without protective eyewear.
How often do I need to use my IPL device?
Our general recommendation is using your Flasher twice per week for the first two months and then once every 1-2 months as needed for touchup. No need to use it more than twice a week, as IPL is only effective in the growth phase of your hair cycle!
With consistent use, hair should start growing back more slowly and finely, before stopping altogether.
What are the side effects of IPL hair removal?
IPL hair removal is safe, as long as you use a device from a trusted brand and follow the instructions carefully. The procedure is quick and shouldn’t hurt; it may feel hot and tingly (similar to a quick elastic-band snap).
Side effects including redness and slight discomfort aren’t unusual and shouldn’t last, but blisters and burns are rare. Always see a doctor if you suffer an adverse reaction after using an IPL device.
IPL vs laser hair removal: What's the difference?
The main difference is the type of light used to target hair follicles. IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a broadband pulsed light. Laser is a single monochromatic light source.
IPL is not the same as laser hair removal, which uses a different, more powerful light source to target a concentrated area of body hair and permanently stop regrowth after four to eight treatments.
IPL can be done at home but laser hair removal can only be performed by a trained professional. As you'd expect, an at-home device will require more consistent use — and patience — to achieve equivalent results.
